Heat and Energy Recovery Ventilators in Denver, CO

During the more extreme weather seasons of the year, people tend to shut all of their doors and windows so that they can have an easier time of climate control. While this does make it easier to maintain a comfortable climate in summer or winter, it also eliminates the flow of fresh air into the home.

This can have some unforeseen negative effects, which is why heat and energy recovery ventilators exist. Cooper Heating & Cooling, Inc. offers comprehensive heat and energy recovery ventilator services throughout Denver, CO. If you need any of these systems installed or serviced, call today to schedule an appointment with one of our technicians.

How They Work

Heat recovery ventilators (HRV’s) and energy recovery ventilators (ERV’s) are systems designed to allow air to flow in and out of your home without compromising climate control. The system itself is a type of heat exchanger, which is installed in the ducts of the home. A separate section of duct extends outside, to provide the access to fresh air the system needs.

Air from outside flows into the recovery ventilator, while air from the home flows out of it. As the two air flows pass each other in the heat exchanger portion of the system, they equalize each other’s temperatures. What this means is that by the time the outside air flows into the home, it is roughly the same temperature as the air inside.

This is how you can keep your home warm in the winter and cool in the summer without actually compromising on air quality. The only real difference between HRV’s and ERV’s is that HRV’s also transfer humidity levels form outside the home, while ERV’s do not.

Advantages of HRV’s and ERV’s

Everyone knows what happens if you run a climate control system for hours without any fresh air being introduced. The air becomes stale and uncomfortable. This is more than a comfort problem, though.

Lack of fresh air flowing into the home also traps a lot of airborne contaminants in the ducts, circulating them throughout the home as long as the climate control system is operating. Breathing in these same contaminants over a long period of time is quite likely to make you sick. Part of the advantages of using an HRV or ERV is that they help keep your indoor air quality high.

We Install and Service Ventilator Systems of All Kinds

Installing an HRV or ERV is something that only a professional technician can handle. Most homes are not naturally outfitted for this kind of system, and the alterations to the ducts must be precise in order to work properly. This is not the kind of thing that should be attempted by anyone but a professional.

HRV’s and ERV’s are not as susceptible to problems as other systems, but they do develop repair needs on occasion. You should have a professional examine these systems at least once every couple of years, to make sure that they are still functioning properly. This will limit future repair costs. If you do suspect a problem with your system, call for repairs right away.

Fortunately, you have a whole company of professionals at your service right now. Cooper Heating & Cooling, Inc. offers comprehensive HRV and ERV services throughout Denver, CO. No matter what your ventilation needs are, we can find the system that fits them. Don’t resign yourself to poor indoor air quality throughout the year. Call today to schedule an appointment.
