This month, we’re proud to recognize Plumbing Lead Mirwais Abedy as our June Employee of the Month.
From Afghanistan to a New Beginning
Mirwais’ story is one of courage, perseverance, and opportunity.
Before coming to the United States, he served as an interpreter for the U.S. military in Afghanistan. As conditions in his home country became increasingly dangerous, he made the difficult decision to leave his family behind and begin a new chapter in search of safety and a brighter future.
After arriving in the United States, Mirwais earned his U.S. citizenship and began working at Denver International Airport. While grateful for the opportunity, he knew he wanted more than just a job — he wanted a career where he could continue learning, growing, and building a better future for himself and his family.
That opportunity came through the Cooper Green Team.
His cousin, who was already working as a plumber with the company, encouraged him to explore a career in the skilled trades. When Cooper Green Team began hiring plumbing apprentices in July 2024, Mirwais immediately applied, eager to learn a new profession and build a long-term career.
From Apprentice to Plumbing Lead
Mirwais quickly earned the respect of his teammates through his strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.
He embraced every opportunity to grow his plumbing knowledge, worked hard to master his craft, and consistently stepped up whenever help was needed. His dedication paid off when he was promoted to Plumbing Lead in September 2025.
Today, Mirwais serves homeowners throughout the Denver Metro, helping diagnose plumbing issues, complete repairs, and deliver the professional service Cooper Green Team is known for. His journey reflects our commitment to investing in people, promoting from within, and creating rewarding careers in the skilled trades.
A Family-Oriented Culture
Ask Mirwais what he enjoys most about working at Cooper Green Team, and his answer is simple: the people.
He values the company’s welcoming, family-oriented culture and enjoys working alongside two of his cousins, who are also part of the Cooper Green Team family. He also credits his manager for creating a supportive environment where employees are encouraged to learn, grow, and succeed.
As the oldest member of his family, Mirwais carries a deep sense of responsibility to support his loved ones both here in the United States and back home. That commitment inspires the work ethic and determination he brings to every job.
When he’s away from work, Mirwais enjoys spending time with his family at local parks, relaxing over a picnic and playing volleyball together.
